Pope St. Pius X was born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto in 1835, in the town of Riese, Italy. He was considered a holy priest, bishop, cardinal and pope. Soon after he died in 1914, petitions for canonization began immediately. 40 years after his death Pope Pius XII proclaimed him a saint.
