I was sitting at my art table ready to begin another colored pencil painting, but first needed to sharpen pencils. As is usually my habit, I sharpened the pencil and then dumped the shavings on paper. I was ready to do a second pencil when the idea for another painting hit me. I placed the pencil that I had just sharpened on top of the pile of shavings and took a photograph of it. What you see here is a colored pencil painting based on that photograph entitled "Art Needs A Point". This piece is truly an unintended still life, but one that all colored pencil artists will relate to in a major way. The title I picked relates to this particular piece for one fairly obvious reason, and it is not meant as criticism directed toward those artists who may favor abstraction. This painting was done on Dura-lar polyester film using Farber-Castell Polychromos, Marshall, and Koh-I-Noor pencils. It measures 9 X 12 inches. What this piece taught me is to always keep your eyes open for your next painting!

Good subject & illustration given wth it, I am sure any artist would relate to it, thank you for sharing.

Artist Reply: Blossom: thanks so much for your comments. They are greatly appreciated. The title for the piece seemed a natural. Colored pencils need a good point to perform properly. Thanks again for looking and for taking time to comment. Have a great day. Best regards, Will.
