This is a realistic colored pencil painting I did based on a photograph I took during a visit to the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. I was taken by the old look of the brick, the bars on the window, and how this was softened by the presence of a beautiful flowering vine. The piece was done on Dura-lar polyester film using Prismacolor Verithin pencils. It measures 8 inches X 12 inches. I was told that the dark coloration on the individual bricks is due to a mold associated with the distillation and aging process of bourbon whiskey. I'm not a bourbon drinker, but this is a beautiful place to visit. Hope you enjoy.

Fabulous piece. I love the way you were able to make the brick and window look weathered. All of your work is very impressive.

Artist Reply: Joe: thank you so much for your comments! They are greatly appreciated. I enjoy doing brick work and I was pleased how they turned out. The contrast of things in this scene (bricks, bars, and tender flowers) made it a really interesting piece. I'm glad that it also spoke to you as it did to me. Have a great week. Best regards, Will
