City Colour Collage

For our second collage and first foray into colour, we had to base our work on an urban scene by Charles Sheeler. First of all, many sheets of Bond paper were painted to make the material for the collage. We had to paint stripes of analogous colours, complimentary colours, plaids, stripes, patterns, etc. Then cut them out using the Sheeler work as a guide. Only red, yellow, blue and white could be used. I still feel the bottom part of this painting is unresolved - I have until the end of term to punch it up some more :-) This was an extremely challenging project.

Christine, I love the simplicity of form, variety of textures and emotive color in this work.
