St. Augustine From The Bridge Of Lions

I am introducing a new sub-gallery entitled High dynamic range photography. The purpose of this process is to enhance the range of detail and color within the limits of the chiaroscuro of the digital image, thus imparting a richer texture to the visual experience. I shot this photo with my new Canon EOS Rebel T2i DSLR camera. I really love this camera, a lot. This is a picture taken of the Flagler Building and the Steeples of the old Flagler Hotel which is now a small and prestigious liberal arts college. The view is looking down Cathedral Place with The Plaza De La Constitucion. I attempted to take the photo of this view from the apex of this historical drawbridge. Because of my spinal cord injury, my equilibrium problems, and being in a precarious location, I began having problems on the bridge. Because of my medical disabilities, and high winds with gusts up to 30-40 MPH I was forced to change my plans. I became so disoriented at the high point of the bridge that my body froze solid and was unable to move at all. My wife Barbara and my cousin Paul had to come for me and help me to turn my scooter around so I could get off the bridge. This photograph was taken from the passenger seat of my cousin Paul's PT Cruiser while we were moving at around 30 MPH. I was really surprised that this problem developed for me in what was such a secure location while I was seated. I have had problems with my equilibrium in crowded venues while on foot with a lot of people moving around me in an erratic manner, but I never expected this to happen. I know artists are supposed to suffer for their art, but this was ridiculous.

Wonderful composition... a very beautiful place! I am sorry to hear that you had such severe problems on the bridge, that of course you never expected.

Wonderful HDR!

Artist Reply: Thanks Emily. I used Photomatix Pro with all of these. I have become fascinated with the possibilities this process presents for so many different aspects of my work. What I really like about this composition is that the perspective of the lamp posts of the bridge reinforces the perspective of the steeples and tower of the buildings on the west side of Cathedral Place.
