Back when I started out as a freelance illustrator I had a weird obsession with penguins. They were all over my business cards, website and stationary. I’m still not sure why really, I’ve just always thought penguins were kinda funny! Over the years though, the penguins have slowly disappeared from my portfolio and from my work generally… again I’m not really sure why. But y’know, I started to miss them a bit. So as a first step to reviving the little guys, here is the all new ‘Rufus’ character design. He’s changed a bit from the old days, but for the better I think. Rufus is the runt of the tribe (I know penguins don’t really hang around in tribes but it’s a cartoon, so there). Dropped on his head as a youngster, he’s a couple of sardines short of a… well, something that has a lot of sardines in it… I don’t know, a sardine sandwich or something! Copyright Calvin Innes 2009
