Paris: Restaurant Le Consulat Montmartre

I am in the process of painting this 20" x14" watercolor to explore the dramatic effect created by a transitional weather front. As a child I remember my mother getting all excited about a sun shower when the rain was coming down but the sun would pop out from behind a dark Michigan storm cloud sending a beam of light from the heavens. It was a reassurance that this storm too would pass. The American southwest landscape art tradition as exemplified by such greats Thomas Moran and Wilson Hurley made magnificent use of these weather phenomena to great and dramatic effect.

This already shows great promise of being a wonderful painting! The buildings progress nicely and lead the eye to the background where details capture your interest and lead the eye forward again!!!

Stanton, I love the buildings already with the great light and colours! I can't wait to see how you'll finish all that beautiful detail. :)

Artist Reply: I am on pins and needles myself regarding the outcome of this work. My big concern is the sky and how that will work out.
