Say Hello to Charlie!

This is Charlie, the oldest and longest resident at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. He enjoys people and his keeper will tell you that he is like a big ole puppy dog, each morning when the keeper comes to wake Charlie, he will roll over and lift his leg to get a good old belly scratch, before greeting the day. Charlie is a White Rhino they are the most common of all rhinos and consists of two subspecies, with the northern subspecies being rarer than the southern. The northern subspecies may have as few as 13 remaining world wide. White Rhino's are slaughtered and poached for their horns. Taken in Aldergrove at the GVZ, B.C.
