Barrel Jumping Palmer Park ca. 1956 Day 7

The painting is approaching completion. I have laid in the ice and added a gray blue wash matching the pallet of the sky. What is left is to define certain elements of the painting by increasing the contrast and sharpening objects as in the foreground. I will also be looking for ways to enhance the texture of the painting by employing some dry brush work in those areas of the painting. I had a lot of fun looking up information on high schools on the Northeast side to decorate the clothing of the figures on the ice. The two high schools that I settled on were Mumford High School, where I would have gone had I stayed in Detroit through high school, and Cooley High School whose mascot were the Cardinals. I am not quite sure but I think that Cooley's colors would have been red and a second color. Mumford's color motif for the high school was blue (i.e. the exterior of the school itself was painted blue). If there are any fellow Detroiters are out there in Art Wanted world and you happen to know what the colors of the schools were I would like to hear from you. It looks like I will be making some phone calls tomorrow to Motown to find out.

Thank you for sharing your way of doing your paintings, you are a MASTER artist, I am sure it will help some artist, just looking at your interesting work is a joy......

Artist Reply: Thank you for your generous comments about my work. I haven't been able to paint for the last eight years, arthritis has ended has pretty much ended my last 40 years of painting. At least I know I have a truly body of quality work of which I can be proud. You have made me feel that it was truly time well spent;
