Church of the Spilled Blood (St. Petersburg) 2008

This is a somewhat simplified version of the Church of the Spilled Blood in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was build over the spot where Alexander II (the Liberator Czar) was assassinated and his blood spilled on the cobblestone steps (which you can still see in the church). It was painted for Nikita Fitenko, a pianist friend, for his 40th birthday. He comes from St. Petersburg, but lives now in Central Louisiana.

Very eye catching. I'm sure your friend is delighted.

my grt.grt.grandfather Johann v.Meyer lived in St.Petersburg and made his wealth there...I attempted to paint this Church at one time, but am not good with architectures...I paint many Troikas with some background buildings as such...this painting of yours beautiful, as are all your paintings.
