The Emmett Kelly, Jr

This is the completed version of my 16x20 acrylic portrait painting of the World's Favorite Clown, Emmett Kelly Jr. He is famous the world over and is the son of Emmett Kelly, otherwise known as Wearie Willie. Emmett was a mime hobo clown, mime meaning that while he was in his character, he NEVER spoke! He was always sad...always down on his luck...and always...he kept plugging along. He gave the world hope and faith that IF we keep going, no matter how bad things are going, that things will work out. People looked at him and realized that their own world was not so bad after all! He has been seen in literally hundreds of famous paintings in the last 45 years or so, and the most well known and prolific artist of Emmett was Donald "RUSTY" Rust. Rusty painted Emmett for years in the cutest situations in his unique style that only Rusty could do. Also Sue Poeteet, I hope I spelled that right, has painted many famous paintings of him as well...but in her realistic style, almost always with a dark background, kind of her trademark. I am licensed by "Greenstuff Licensing", who owns the rights to any artwork done of Emmett. My license is for acrylic paintings and prints of those paintngs. Rusty is also a well known Pin Up artist and is still very prolific, but has all but stopped painting Emmett. He and Sue have been very helpful to me in giving me advise. I never actually saw Emmett in costume myself, although I have taken many photographs of him in his everyday clothing and also as a Tombstone Gunfight Reinactor. My good friend, James "JIM" Kidd has been photographing Emmett for 20 years give or take and he has provided me with many more awsome photographs to paint from. This painting was done from one of the photographs that Jim provided me. I am so grateful to Jim, Rusty, and Sue for all their help and advise, and to Debbie and Lenny Green of "Greenstuff Licensing" for giving me the rare chance and the honor of being able to portray Emmett in my own unique style to share with the world and help to keep his memory alive. I hope you all enjoy seeing my paintings of Emmett as much as I am enjoying painting him! I am so sorry to announce that the world lost it's favorite hobo clown on Oct. 29, 2006. He was a class act and he will always continue to bring smiles to children and the child in us! WE LOVE YOU EMMETT! FRIENDS FOREVER This paintng is available for sale through PayPal. 8x10 unframed photographic prints are open edition and hand signed by myself for $19.95 ithe free shipping via USPS First Class. They are incredibly bright and true to the original. Also, I would like you to check out the website of "WATKINS DESIGNS" at www.watkinsdesigns.com They are selling WALL CLOCKS and ITALIAN CHARMS for bracelets or necklaces of my painting there....as well as paintings and photos of Emmett by other licensed artists. Just go to The website and click on either clocks...or Italian Charms and you will find him there. They are simply titled..."EKJ" Please pay through my PayPal address: [email protected] This is also my email address, should you wish to contact me via email. This is the only painting of mine that Emmett himself ever saw. It had it's debut at Emmett's 80th Birthday Bash in Tombstone Arizina in November 2004. My ZOOMED photo is of Emmett and myself at his bash. Emmett is in his Gunfighter attire and if you look on the table behind us on the left of me...you will see a small...5x7 framed print of this painting on display there...and if you look really close, you will also see a little wallet of him too! The original painting was also behind us, but doesn't show in this photo! Also...the piece of the building you barely see behind us to the right of Emmett is the original OK CORRAL...scene of the famous gunfight with Wyatt Earp and the Clanton gang of the bad guy...the Cowboys. This could be a very interesting photo for those of you who have never seen the REAL EMMETT, out of his clown character!

Artist Reply: Hello and thanks for your comment and inquiry of my painting of Emmett Kelly, Jr! I still have the painting and have never tried to sell it yet or price it. I wou;d gladly entertain a serious offer though. Of course I wwould retain reproduction rights unless someone wanted to purchase that also. Needless to say that would be considerably more. Hope to hear from you soon. My email is [email protected] and phone 509-339-3929. Thanks again...Sincerely....Patti Jo
