Aliens, Angles and Animals, Fall '07 Class 2

More photographs from my Fall '07 Soft Sculpture class for gifted children at UNCA's Super Saturdays. ALIENS, ANGELS & ANIMALS, UNCA, 10/07. Thanks to Vicki Lynn Passmore for the photographs. I only cropped and arranged them. This class lasts 6 weeks each spring and fall. Beautiful and talented children!

Great puppets,Sara... are they hand sewing? machine sewing? Gluing? How are these constructed? wonderful creativity!

Artist Reply: Most of those here are soft sculptures which are made from orphaned socks which I first machine sew in a "V" in the toe. The "V" is cut down the middle to make ears or legs. The children choose from a huge supply of felt scraps, feathers, gems etc. and stuff, hand sew, draw, glue gun decorations to complete. They can also create from their own drawings on fabric or fake fur which are stuffed and decorated. The most ambitious projects involved needle sculpture where the toe of old nylon stockings are stuffed and the eyes, nose and lips are shaped with needle and thread.
