Red Dragon

I captured this beauty on one of the Algonquin trails in 2006. My local newspaper editor told me that the red dragonflies are pretty rare, so this one is a treasure to me.  I even researched the archives to find one and the only ones I found were dead and shrivelled up.

The "RED DRAGON" was quite large so it was easily spotted and it sat so patiently as I snapped a few quick shots.  I just love walking through nature and feeling it's presence. It's astounding how much beauty is out there.

About the photo:  In 2006 I've had her in our local newspaper as well, and it made a huge display with an article.  This is the original shot and there was no digital enhancing done to this one, even though I was tempted.  I'm proud of it just as it is.

I saw a red dragonfly last weekend while walking...never seen one in my lifetime (I'm 57). I got real close to it... Cool shot...

Artist Reply: Thanks again David. Yeah, they are pretty rare so I've heard. I've seen a couple of them in my life but never one so bright and HUGE!! : ) Cheers bud!
