Marvin Gaye-Lost Pride and Joy of R&B

I met this man, spoke to him,and shook his hand in the New York Hilton Hotel. I was 14, so of course I was excited, and impressed. I hated that he had to go the way he did, but his life, although filled with talent, and earned riches, couldn't heal a scarred psyche. Also, those things can't make up for a marred soul. Marvin Gaye you are missed.

The perfect likeness you've created in this image is what makes it so outstanding. I loved all of his songs, and what comes to mind while viewing this image is the song he sung, "Troubled man." Another great image you've drawn Carliss :o)

Artist Reply: Evelyn, I'm, so pleased that you like this one of Marvin Gaye. The work is so old now, I guess only new ones get attention. Thanks so much for taking the time to look back into the older pieces in my port! I really appreciate it. "Troubled Man?" It's a good, good song to represent a lot of his life.

Very well done. I've been looking for excellent pencil portraits and this is one. The shading is so effective, yet not overdone. btw, what soul is not marred? We all carry scars, some go deeper is all.

Artist Reply: Thank you for your comment, and letting me know what you liked about it. Actually, what I said was not that no soul was unmarred. What I did say was that fame, and riches can't heal a marred soul.

Beautiful work Carliss...excellent skin tones!

Artist Reply: Hi, vblair! Thank you! The skin tones were fun to do, and a great toning, and shading exercise.
