Ecclesiastes xii. 8.

4. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; all is vanity. Ecclesiastes xii. 8. KNOW [O men] that the life of this world is but a play and a passing delight, and a beautiful show, and [the cause of] your boastful vying with one another, and [of your] greed for more and more riches and children. Its parable is that of [life-giving] rain: the herbage which it causes to grow delights the tillers of the soil; but then it withers, and thou canst see it turn yellow; and in the end it crumbles into dust. But [the abiding truth of mans condition will become fully apparent] in the life to come: [either] suffering severe, or Gods forgiveness and His goodly acceptance: for the life of this world is nothing but an enjoyment of self-delusion. 57:20 The Iron

of course i should never have read the other comments before i left my own. i have been looking at all your work and first and foremost i visualize the art of the cross's and composition as it did not become a religous object in my mind until i was brought it by others.

Artist Reply: The Memorial was not intended as a religious statement other than the Cross is used in places like Arlington. With that being said, there are undercurrents to this conflict that are deeply religious to some in a "us versus them" mentality. and this exists on both sides. If you see the Memorial itself, there are Islamic crescents, Star of Davids, Buddhist symbols and even three Wiccan Pentacles. Over time, people both within and outside the core group have sought to represent other religions in the conflict in that some US soldiers who have died where of faiths other than Christianity. The Crosses Exhibit is my own comparative study between the Islamic faith and Christianity.
