Aerial photo, Queens Square, Bristol BS1 4XX

This aerial picture of historical Queen Square, Bristol has changed since the photo was taken in 1991.The road running through the square has been removed and replaced with grass. In the book 'Treasure Island' Robert Louis Stevenson portrayed Long John Silver as the landlord of the Spyglass Inn. The red dot in the top left of the photo marks the Spyglass Inn (now a steak house called the 'Hole in the Wall' This pub was a regular call for the press gang. It is said that the pub landlord was paid for the capture of unsuspecting guests who would awake on a slaver bound for Africa. Also showing are the following :- Prince Street, Welsh Back, The Grove, Little King Street,King Street and part of the docks.
