Winter Wonderland: Detroit MI Woodward Ave ca.1905

This is a 14"x 20" watercolor that was inspired by scenes of my childhood of our backyard on Littlefield Ave. in Detroit. We had more trees and shrubs on our property than any other home in the neighborhood. After a fresh snowfall the backyard was transformed into a white wintery paradise of snowladen branches. Also in the first major snowstorm of my first year in college at Eastman while walking to the dorms from the student union, I was reacquainted with the quiet that winter snows bring to the city. In this winter scene I tried to capture solitude and somber beauty that winter brings to city life. A beauty that reaches deep inside you to capture your heart and soul, and abides with you for all the days of your life.

This stunning scene is so very special! Marvelous work, Stanton! I didn't know there was a college named Eastman.... My great-grandmother was an Eastman so I wonder if there is a connection?
