The Zookeepers (Portrait Les and Leann Whitt) 2005

This is a portrait of Les and Leann Whitt. Les is the director of the Alexandria Zoo, an extraordinary little zoo for a small community. The Whitts have worked tireless for decades to make the zoo a mecca for local and tourists alike. Despite handsome job offers elsewhere, Les has remained loyal to this community, in part because it is here he received his heart transplant.

Hello David! Yes, It's almost as though Les is putting his heart (and soul) into his job!! I like the winking owl that seems to know something that we don't and the way the little Koala bear is clinging to his friend, Les. In its way this is an extraordinary portrait in that the animals and the people seem united both cosmically and spiritually. The picture has an intensity like all your work and holds us in its vice like grip so that we want to keep looking, afraid that we'll miss something. Brilliant artwork!
