Turn Around Time:San Francisco ca. 1945

Thie is the turntable at the corner of Market and Powell Sts. on a rainy March day in 1945. The playbill on the side of the cable car is the actual playbill for Othello that was plaing at the Geary St. Theater in 1945. As a tribute to Shakespeare. I lit the open part of the cable car as an hommage to The Bard of Avon, by suggesting the line from the soliloquy "The Seven Ages of Man" from As You Like It, "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts". I included portraits of actual cable car operators. The cable car conductor pulling the car on the left was from a 1945 photograph and the operator on the right backing the car around is a portrait from our family home movies from a trip we took to California in 1957. So hurry get on board we're headed down to the Hyde Street terminus and on to Fisherman's Wharf for a great seafood dinner.
