Rays of light

this is a woman who has seldom seen the sun, when she has the chance, she makes the most of it. this is done in color pencils and chalk pastels.

I think you're on the right track as far as composition and anatomy goes. Keep doing figure studys and work on the hands some more eventhough they're so hard to do. As far as detail goes, what will help is to establish the source of light, which will help define the more subdued lines and balancing the entire technique out. Usually background is darker than foreground to give the sense of space, but really depends on where the light falls. Possibly the foreground. Hope that helps you out some. Keep at it!

Artist Reply: wow, this is an old piece. i agree with everything you've said. i definately need to work on figure drawing and now that you mention it, the background should probably contrast more with the subject/foreground. i hadnt looked at this particular peice in a quite a while, im rather surprised that i still kind of like it. thank you very much for your input, it will prove helpful in future works!
