Real de Catorce

This is a village in the Eastern Sierra Madre in central Mexico. It's called Real de Catorce and it was where the movie "The Mexican" was mostly filmed. (but that's not why I went there) There are now about 1000 year round inhabitants where in it's prime there were nearly 15,000. Then, it was known for it's silver mining but with the decline of silver the once prosperous city evolved into pretty much a ghost town. Right now tourism is about the only thing keeping it alive. I had the fortunate pleasure of being invited here for a wedding. This wedding was not being held in a church but outside on a mountain top at around 10,000 feet in elevation. This image was taken en route to that point. The wedding started at dusk and continued all night long with the actual vows being taken at sunrise....yes we all stayed up there all night long..(about 30 of us).The views were absolutely amazing! The sunsets were gorgeous and at night I never saw so many stars in my entire life. This is a very magical place....and an experience that I will always treasure.

Nice. just visited this town. Friendly people. Notice the stone wall that protected the abandoned silver mine. Toured the mine--was awsome.
