The Greek God Typhon is said to be the "father of all monsters." In this painting, Typhon becomes a demon-like, winged creature emerging from the hot fire and glowing lava of a huge volcano. He grasps the mountain with snaking tendrils as if he's just crawled out of the darkest depths of hell to take out his wrath on the human race.
