Outcast Wasteland

2' x 9' watercolor & ink on masonite board I think of my current work as ongoing depictions of scenes from my invented world, Outcast Wasteland. To me this is my own visual narrative that could translated in multiple media, and viewed in multiple markets. These depictions are created through both a improvisational and methodical process. This process is improvisational through the instinctive decisions of choosing what should be included in this world; and its methodical in the way I mediate why these objects or characters need to be included through the act of rendering them. The work thus far has remained 2D in painting and drawing form, using watercolor mixed with Walnut and brown Higgins ink, and accompanied by line work. This body of work is inspired and informed not only by my own memories, and fantasies of escapism during my adolescence, but as well as my two younger siblings. Through making this work I am realizing the parts of myself that are unwilling to surrender to adulthood and using it to make my own visual escape. In correlation of creating a world and having it be of a continuous narrative into other works, I am referencing artists Henry Darger, Marcel Dzama, and Gary Baseman.
