(updated from a former layout)--The facial expression came from a statue because statues make good models when not loosely inserted into projects. Because this particular crucified thief of the Bible knew that he had one afternoon left to live he knew he had nothing to lose and everything to gain by believing in this particular prisoner being crucified next to him. The challenge of “this” particular illustration was portraying a most peaceful moment living inside a most desperate situation...without any hint of subliminal overtones that sometimes leak into everyday advertising artwork productions.
