This is a colored pencil painting that I did almost as an experiment. I read an article in the winter 2015 issue of "Drawing" about an amazing colored pencil artist, Elizabeth Patterson. She does wonderful pieces based on photographs she takes out of her car window while it is raining. I was intrigued by her work and wondered if I could do something like this! So while sitting in a parking lot on a rainy winter day I decided to shot a couple of pictures with my phone. This is the end result of this experiment. The piece is done using Faber-Castell Polychromos and Prismacolor pencils on matte surfaced Dura-lar polyester film. Its size is basically 7 inches X 11 inches. It is entitled "Through the Car Window". The blend of realism and abstraction created by the rain is interesting. It is far short of the effects that Elizabeth Patterson achieves, but I plan to do more pieces. My hope is that my renderings will improve with practice! I hope that you enjoy examining this piece. Thank you all for looking.

I really like how this was done and the subject matter, that is to say how rain drops on a window warp or distort the image.

Just what a we need this time of the year :-)

Artist Reply: John: always good to hear from you. Thanks for your comment. Rain is better than snow here in Iowa as long as it doesn't freeze! You don't need to shovel rain! Have a good weekend. Best regards, Will

Artist Reply: Marie-Claire: thank you so much for such kind words. This piece was an experiment to see if I could do a piece of this type. I am satisfied, but I hope that future works featuring distortions caused by rain will be even more satisfying. Thanks again. Best regards, Will

FANTASTIC ART, WILL.

Artist Reply: Sharon: I'm glad that you find this look appealing. I did this as an experiment to see if I could do something like this. I do plan to do more of this type of work and I hope that the final results of these efforts will be even more satisfying. Again thanks. Best regards, Will
