Waabski Maa'ingan (White Wolf)

The illustration seen here is a depiction of the spirit name that was granted to me by the elders during a sacred ceremony. I had to tell the medicine man of a dream I had, in which it was winter, and I stumbled upon a pack of wolves. They encircled me and stared at me except for one, it was a wolf with a pure white coat. He began to pace around me and I got nervous, what does he want I thought, then he lunged at me. At that point, just before he made contact I woke up, and was drenched in sweat. After telling him the story he then decided we enter the sweatlodge, in which I received that name. The inking of black and white has always intrigued me and seems to bring out the best in what I have to offer, which is growing at an alarming pace. Looking carefully one can also see a mixture of traditional art styles mingled with modern techniques. In the background sky, there are two eagles circling each other, which represents new life, and a new beginning for myself. Included in the illustration are my four colors, red, white, black and blue, which were also granted during that same ceremony in which I received my spirit name. - Kevin JW Anderson - ©
