Scottish Merchant's House c1750

Back in the 1700s you would finance your ship and then wait patiently for it to return with your fortune on board. To save waiting too long you built your house directly on to the rocks on the foreshore, beside the harbour and then you could run out every day with your spyglass and check the horizon. The castellated gables were typical of Scottish houses at that time. This one is in Crail in east Fife, Scotland.
