This beautiful snowy owl is only the 6th reported in Texas as their normal range is arctic tundra. Thanks to the Audubon Dallas forum, I learned of the location at Lake Ray Hubbard, 20 miles east of Dallas. There has been an irruption of snowy owls far south this year due to multiple factors, i.e., abundance of snowy owls born last year followed by drought and fewer lemmings for them to feed on; so they had to seek food beyond the usual habitat.
