Beyond These Walls (and there with you). Birds dance in the windy spaces, Between knife edge towers that pierce the day, Flying low down the line of an alley, Flicking upward then pushing away. And I watch them bank and run, Daring the tangle of city to bring them down, Blue grey motions that mock the immobile, Concrete wings soaring up from the ground. And you know I too would weave, Through this net, Woven by man to trap his own soul, Through this labyrinth devoid of sunlight, Roofed by the sky but so bitterly cold. For I long to race to the edge, Dance like paper whirling towards a sky, That arcs over sunlit fields, And there with you I’d fly. S.Kelly
