Artist Bio

John was born in the north hills of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania during the winter of 1952. McKnight Road, as it is still known today, was a two lane country road with farm cropped hillsides, fields of corn, and cows that roamed the pastures that are now businesses, parking lots and highways.

John began his artistic career as a poet and artist in pointillism while attending the University of Pittsburgh in 1986, but never pursued his interest in photography until his later years. It was then that he produced such Awarded works as: “Pithole City Reflections,” “Generator House” and “Drifting Clouds.” An undergraduate, John never lost focus of his learning and is a self-taught digital photographer.

His photography is inspired by the elements of his surroundings. With an intense desire to “capture the moment” as it appears in its own natural state, he awakes to capture early morning sun rises, dew drops on an orchid, or a historical moment in History. John has been photographing landscapes and creative subjects for over a decade.

In 1987 John was named Personality of America for Outstanding Achievements in the Arts. In 1997 he received the Commemorative Medal of Honor for Outstanding Achievements and Dedication to Personal and Professional Goals from the American Biographical Institute. John is also the author of “Eruptions of the Heart” published by Publish America. John is a former Marine and a Viet Nam war era veteran.

John’s work has appeared in such publications as: Reminisce Magazine, The Powhatan Review, Photographer's Edge, Inc., Pittsburgh City Paper, The Aurora Review, Pedestal Magazine, The Adirondack Review, Haiku Zasshi Zo, TPQ Online, British Journal of Photography, The Front Porch Magazine, Void Magazine, Dr. Henry Smith’s photography book, 'Pennsylvania Seasons' and more.

John has won various awards through the North Hills Art Center, and held a position on the Board of Governors. John also participated at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, and won 1st Place in the Professional Photography category at the Kennedale’s 49th Annual Arts Festival coordinated by the Oil Region Alliance of Business, Industry & Tourism in 2005.

John has six children, seven grandchildren, two great grand children and a feline. John still awakens to morning sun rises and resides in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
