My name is Paul Meeks and I'm a 39 year old visually impaired artist and illustrator living in Cardiff, Wales following a decade in Hereford and a brief stint in Liverpool and Birkenhead. I moved to Hereford from Kettering, Northamptonshire in 1996 to study for my Art & Design Foundation at the Royal National College for the Blind. From there I moved on to the Herefordshire College of Art & Design for my BA(Hons) Illustration.
My work tends to vary between painting and illustration with some cartoon work and writing thrown in occassionally. My prefered painting medium is oil as you can either work fast and loose or keep re-working until its just right. Oils also result in much better depth and colour. For illustration I usually combine watercolours with digital elements. I use watercolours for their immediacy and freshness. When the unpredictability of watercolour is combined with the tightly controlled accuracy of digital the results can be truely amazing. It also helps to avoid the static, generic look of some digital art today.
