Artist Bio

ryan emgE was born on the eastern shore of Maryland where he has lived the majority of his life. Now living in Baltimore, Ryan attends MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) and is studying as an illustration major. Pervious to MICA he studied at Anne Arundel Community College. During his time at AACC, he has strived to move forward one day at a time. Not long after his time there, he became the president of AACC’s art association and curated a student exhibition titled Angst. Along with getting involved in the school setting, he has also involved himself in the community. He is an active member of the networking committee of the Maryland Art Alliance, Baltimore Creative Alliance, and he meets in Easton, MD with his fellow “Friday Morning Artists.” Recently his work has been published in the North American Review, on three wine labels for Hair O’ the Dog Wine and Spirits, and on the cover of Greg Thuman’s newest CD. Most recently, Ryan has co-founded Page 5. Located in the Station North Arts District, Baltimore, MD, Page 5 is a space occupied by a group of creative individuals. Page 5 homes Food Not Bombs every Wednesday and Sunday, hosts nude figure drawing sessions every Sunday, and is in the process of organizing a gallery, and artist workshops. While the creating, organizing and constructing of Page 5 is in progress, it is planned to have Page 5 completely up and running by the 1st of the new year. emgE’s latest project is producing an illustrated, full-color book on the End of the World. It depicts a personal apocalyptic vision of ideas, predictions, and beliefs. It is planned for publication in 2012. emgE started doing art as a young child, but it wasn’t until his term at AACC that he realized why he does art. For Ryan, art is an inner filling outlet that allows him to reach out of this conscience game and into an unconscious life. Through art he is able to express, cope, and escape reality, filling that void that many of us search to fill. He uses colors emotionally and as they are for what they mean. With color he is able to convey pain, peace, purity, or even a cold winter day. As well as color, his work is often expressed with complicated textures and layers. The textured layers are similar to a gestalt reflection of a complex life. Through the visual language, emgE is able to speak more clearly.
