Garden Calender

In is sunny So Cal, it seems spring is here. Anxious to plant our garden, but after flipping the page on my calender, I see that we had snow on 5-8 & 9- 011. The joys of being bored Guess I'll wait another week or so:((

I Think what ails you RQ is spring fever. I have a touch of it myself.LOL

Thom Roslan 31 Mar 2013

I too have a "feeling".....don't know what it is.......but I want to plant some seeds too.........before the summer heat starts.

RQ Trietsch 31 Mar 2013

Yup. We've been in the upper 70's and low 80's off and on for the past couple of weeks, if not longer. The weeds as usual are going full speed. Love all the green, but can do without the weeds and waking gophers and squirrels. Convinced the wife to wait one more week....maybe.

Heard tonight (Sunday) that we might get a "sprinkle" next week-end !

RQ Trietsch 01 Apr 2013

Same thing on this side of the world. Right after mid weeks high of 85

WE are not that warm ........but i did see my first robin this past week. thats something for me. My flowers are poking through the ground...............yeaaaa spring.

The one thing I really enjoy this time of year is watching the hawks return. Use to be the Red-tails, now the Cooper Hawks decided it's their turn. What I really enjoy, is when they finally get fed up with the crows messing with them, and go on the defenses and attack. Just once I wish I'd have my video cam handy for that.

80+ yesterday and high 70's in the forecast for today. So going to mix and pour and little 8' X 5" working pad for the wife, right outside the shop. Keeps her off the dirt and or mud.

It was quite nice yesterday ,and it ;looks like a repete of it for today. was up at Six and have gone to Penn, and back this morning........beautiful day.Temp is to be in the low 50's today ....but the rest of the week we will be in the 60's. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH Yes Folks SPRING is here.

RQ Trietsch 06 Apr 2013

Yup, spring must be here. Our forecasted 70's turned out to be overcast and high 60's. And today high 70's is very doubtful. Very overcast and drizzling at the moment. But the wife's little greenhouse box has some great looking starter plants ready to go into the ground.:))

Made the wife a couple of work benches for her garden that sits on her new slab. The joys of working with old form lumber, but what the heck....may not be pretty, but it works. Now if we could just get back our warm weather.

rebecca phillips 09 Apr 2013

the forecast is in the 80's here today in eastern NJ! YES!!!

Martha Miller 09 Apr 2013

Hi All. It has been in the 60's here in upstate new york. My flowers are starting to pop their pretty little heads through the wood chips. I'm so waiting for my black tulips to bloom. With the mole activity in my flower beds I'm waiting with bated breath to see how many of my flowers i have left out of approx 75 bulbs. Time will tell, It looks like my crocus fared ok. I will update you on the rest.........lol

RQ Trietsch 10 Apr 2013

Definitely radical weather pattern going on.

Martha, are you doing anything to get rid of your mole problem? Poisons, traps ??

Seems like was the weather warms up, they and gophers and squirrels all come out in force. Got rid of 8 squirrels last year, and I know the neighbors across the street have at least two. And they usually run over to my backdoor neighbors, and then, sometimes to my property. Well midweek looks to be in the high 70's+ but then back down to mid 60's to low 70's by the weekend.

We'll probably starting planting this weekend. Peppers, tomatoes, corn etc....here we come!

Martha Miller 10 Apr 2013

no i have not done anything with them yet. some one told me to get this little thing that puts off a supersonic sound. only animals can hear..once they hear it they will not come around..............Hummmmmmmmmm I wonder if it works on deer. They are coming right up to the front door and eating off my flowers.

RQ Trietsch 11 Apr 2013

I've heard of those little noise makers. They supposedly work great, just have to replace the batteries every now and then. The deer...hmmm you could do what my little sister does, shoot them in the butt with low impact pellet gun. She gets great pleasure in that, but they still love lounging in her yard..

The weather is suppose to stay in the high to mid 60's for the next week or so, so will start our planting this weekend.

Martha Miller 12 Apr 2013

I got a surprise yesterday. When I went to work it was beautiful by the time i finished the tempture has dropped way down with snow flurries. I sure was not expecting that. We too were suppose to have Tempts into the 60's all week. SUrprise Mother Nature Is tell us she is still in charge. Have a great weekend Rq,Thom,.Beccy...........Hugsss

RQ Trietsch 13 Apr 2013

Wow! That would definitely be a surprise. Ours was a forecast of mid 60's that turned out to be 80. Planted pole, green, and Lima beans, also corn and a few peppers yesterday. The wife, Kara, will probably plant her seedling squash's and zucchini today. Also going to the nursery to pick up some tomatoes and a few more seeds. Here's a shot of part of the garden using the phone camera. I really need to start using my normal camera more..

Martha Miller 13 Apr 2013

That is doing to be a very large garden RQ It must be that you and your wife do a lot of canning and freezing. good for you. We all should get back to basics.

Thom Roslan 14 Apr 2013

That's a "great" looking garden R.Q. ! Is it ALL fenced in ? Then all you have to worry about is "underground" villains..................Hahahahaha !

I have to figure out a way to get back into growing veggie's.
