Best way to mail acrylic paintings?

Does anyone know how to best send acrylic paintings through the mail without them getting damaged?

I paint acrylic on canvas, and mainly just do it for fun and to have stuff on my walls. But one of my friends who lives out of state asked if she could buy some paintings, and I was wanting to know the best way to mail them without damaging them. I don't know how likely it is, but I'm afraid of one of them getting punctured, or just indentations of something pressing on one, or the paint coming off or getting messed up or something.

Is there a best way to wrap and protect them? Two of the paintings are 16"x20", but one that she might want is 24"x30". Is there a certain type of protection to put on them? Right now I just spray with a clear acrylic coating when I'm done.

If anyone can give some help on how to best mail paintings so they get there safely, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I've sent my whole collections of artwork across the U.S., then overseas to Costa Rica. I received all my stuff in perfect condition. All I did was wrap the painting in bubble wrap, I did each painting with about 2 or 3 layers of bubble wrap. Then used packing tape to secure everything. I put the paintings in a box so that they were all snug and cushioned up. Tape up the box, put a stamp on it, and take it to the post office. It should be fine. If you're worried, you can write FRAGILE on it and stuff to warn the mail service that they are valuable.

Dear Heather,

I live in South Africa and sent a few paintings to Europe (different countries). I figured that the safest way to get my paintings there is a document tube. One of my paintings got lost on a way and arrived to the address about 5 months latter - undamaged!!! i just make sure you get a tracking number:)
