Ice Cream Chairs

This is something not typical of the work I do. These chairs were made for a Chair-themed community benefit sponsored by artists and held in an area not far from us. I had the idea of making a play on the term, "Ice Cream Chairs," but didn't know how to construct the metal parts. At the first thrift store I tried, I found these two chairs with horrible plastic seats. I sprayed the frames white, and recovered and stuffed the seats with off-white, stretchy material, quilted to make it look like scooped ice cream, then painted stripes in acrylic on the fabric to make it appear marbled with veins of raspberry and peach. It was labor-intensive, but lots of fun!
